Colombo

Colombo

Flying in at 5 a.m., I saw why Colombo enjoys a most fortunate location. It’s with good reason that an ancient name for Sri Lanka – Lanka Dvipa – means ‘fortunate island.’ I came to Colombo to learn about its place in the world and write about its plans for the future. My article appeared in The Ceylon Chronicle | Full Text

Dubai

Dubai

I’ve traveled to Dubai often in recent years for conferences, research and writing on energy. I became impressed with Dubai's solar energy program and, as a curious writer, intrigued by the city itself. I wrote a feature Dubai's Planning Paradox for Planning magazine. I've also written on it's renewable energy aspirations and the DGCX.

LNG supply, demand and pricing

LNG supply, demand and pricing

LNG is an interesting niche in energy markets depending on many factors and regional forces. I tried to shed light on global supply/demand and factors influencing prices, writing for Oilprice.

About me

I am a Chicago-based writer currently living and working in Dubai. I write about oil and gas, renewable power and new energies, covering the Middle East and Africa.

I have written about energy, infrastructure, construction, urban and regional planning, for print and on-line publications. I like to write profiles of cities, people and places. I’ve also written about food, music and dance. I am coauthor of Beyond Burnham, An Illustrated History of Planning for the Chicago Region (Lake Forest College Press, 2009).

I began to write for publication in 2000, while working in the planning group of a major metropolitan agency. Regional planning led me to reflect on many aspects of cities and culture. I continue writing on a wide array of topics today.

You will see a sampling of my published work and other essays on this weblog.
