When low-carbon hydrogen becomes an export commodity, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) will become an epicentre of production. The region’s vast renewable energy resources, hydrocarbon infrastructure, trade routes and basic know-how give it unique advantages.
I began to follow developments in 2019 covering the consortia and project announcements, then focusing on finance as the more credible schemes advance to FID. Now the commodity markets begin to emerge with supportive policies in place.
