Dubai Expo 2020 was the first world exposition to be held in the Middle East. It said something about energy. It said something, unwittingly and despite itself, about the world’s hoped-for energy transition(s) in the midst of the world’s pressing need for economic growth. The article puts focus on one area where the sustainability pavilion and three smaller country pavilions stood in proximity, where Expo may have been most prescient, most insightful of the future.
